Networking for an Introvert!

Have you ever been to a networking event and seen that one person who seems to be so natural at striking a conversation with everyone? Yes? If we have ever been to the same networking event, you have most likely thought this about me.

PS: This isn’t a post to toot my own horn. I do enough of that in real life, but this is to show you a perspective that you might not know about.

If you know me personally, you will know this to be true: I am an Introvert. Yes, the typical type of introvert who thinks talking to people is a chore.

My ideal day is staying at home, playing video games, binging on a TV show or reading a good book in my pajamas. Recruiting demands that I push my own limits to create connections. With these tips, you too can feel confident while increasing your networking capabilities.

Let’s say you have a favorite TV show or a novel you are currently reading or a game you are playing. When you go to these networking events, pretend that you are speaking to someone from one of these places. I always to find people who show similarities to characters from (Nerd alert) Doctor Who, FireFly, Game Of Thrones, Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. How?

Well, think of this event as you taking the ring to Mordor, or finishing a task in the tri-wizard tournament. You have all these side-quests you have finish before you get to the final destination. For us the final destination being Home in our pajamas. Each conversation being a side-quest or task you have to finish to be that much closer to the final destination.

The next time you are out there at an event, try this and let me know if it helps.
